College Food

We recently arranged to have some of our food storage sent to our daughter who is in her Senior year in college.  She had specifically requested the freeze dried chicken that she really likes.

We don't know her recipe but it includes the chicken, freeze dried peas and corn and some dehydrated carrots.  All of which she can take what is needed from the can and then put the cans back on the shelf.  No refrigeration, no spoiling, no mess, no trouble.

She said is was really good.

Imagine that, food storage that is easy enough and good enough for a college student to make and enjoy!

Sandy

It has been two months since Super Storm Sandy hit New Jersey and New York along with several other states on the eastern seaboard.  We have experienced hurricanes and tropical storms and truly feel for  the people that are victims of this storm.

Yesterday we heard from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.  He blamed the remaining problems that  the victims of the storm are still dealing with on Congress.  The House of Representatives did not vote on an aid bill for the victims of the storm.   The Governor's  comments made me think.

Local cities have not fixed the problems.  The State of New Jersey has not fixed the problems.  Now the Federal government is not fixing the problems, yet.

Whether or not government at any level should or should not assist the victims of natural disasters is not the point of this post.  The point is, this situation is a great example of why we should take responsibility for our own situations.

Do we have a grab and go kit?  Are we properly insured?  Do we have some food set aside?  Do we have a first aid kit?  Do we have contingency plans in place?  What can we do to be ready for the unexpected?

Just a thought for the new year.
